Universal Control

You can register an external device connected to your Smart TV using the Screen Remote and operate it with the Universal Control.

The Screen Remote only supports products from the manufacturer that you can select in the Universal Control settings. Products from some manufacturers are not supported.

Setting Up the Universal Control

To use the Universal Control, you must register the external device connected to your Smart TV to the Screen Remote.

You can register only one of each type of device (Set-top Box, Player, Home Theater, Sound Bar, etc.).

The external device must be turned on to register it to the Screen Remote.

Setting up a Set-top Box for Universal Control

To register a set-top box for Universal Control, perform the following steps:

  1. Connect the set-top box that you want to set up for Universal Control to your Smart TV.

  2. Open the Set the Universal Control screen.

    • Using the Screen Remote: Q.Menu () > > To set

    • Using the Universal Control: Smart Home () > Universal Control

    • Using the Input List: Smart Home () > Input List > Set the Universal Control

    • Using the Settings menu: Smart Home () > Settings > OPTION > Set the Universal Control

  3. Check the notes and select Start to open the Magic Remote Control guide.

  4. Select OK to open a screen where you can select the type of external device.

  5. Select the set-top box that you want to set up to open the screen where you can select the input port.

  6. Select the input port to which the set-top box is connected.

  7. Select OK to open the screen where you can select the manufacturer of the set-top box.

  8. Select the manufacturer of the set-top box.

  9. Select OK to open a screen where you can test the remote control.

  10. Check whether the remote control buttons displayed on the screen work normally.

  11. Select OK to open the setting completion screen.

  12. Select Complete to finish setting up the Universal Control.

Setting up a Player, Home Theater, and Sound Bar for Universal Control

To set up a player, home theater, and sound bar for Universal Control, perform the following steps:

  1. Check whether the external device you want to register to Universal Control is connected to your Smart TV.

  2. Open the Set the Universal Control screen.

    • Using the Screen Remote: Q.Menu () > > To set

    • Using the Universal Control: Smart Home () > Universal Control

    • Using the Input List: Smart Home () > Input List > Set the Universal Control

    • Using the Settings menu: Smart Home () > Settings > OPTION > Set the Universal Control

  3. Check the notes and select Start to open the Magic Remote Control guide.

  4. Select OK to open a screen where you can select the type of external device.

  5. Select the external device you want to set up.

  6. Select OK to open a screen where you can select the port to which the external device is connected.

    • Select sound bar to open the screen where you can select the manufacturer.

  7. Select the external device port to which the external device is connected.

  8. Select OK to open a screen where you can select the manufacturer of the external device.

  9. Select the manufacturer of the external device.

  10. Select OK to open a screen where you can test the remote control.

  11. Check whether the remote control buttons displayed on the screen work normally.

  12. Select OK to open the setting completion screen.

  13. Select Complete to finish setting up the Universal Control.

Using the Universal Control

To use Universal Control to operate external devices connected to your Smart TV, follow these steps:

  1. Press the Q.Menu () button on the Magic Remote Control to display the Screen Remote.

  2. Under the Select Device tab of the Screen Remote, select an external device.

    • The Screen Remote changes to Universal Control for the external device.

  3. Use the Screen Remote to operate the external device.

    • To view more Universal Control functions, select at the bottom of the Screen Remote.

    • Some buttons may not work on the Screen Remote.

    • With the external device connected, you can also use the BACK (), Navigation, Wheel (OK), and Channel () buttons on the Magic Remote Control or use the Screen Remote to operate the external devices.

  • Some models may not support all of the Screen Remote functions.

  • You cannot use the Magic Remote Control's pointer to operate external devices from their respective screens.
    Instead, use the Navigation buttons on the Magic Remote Control.

  • To open the home screen of your Smart TV with an external device connected, press the Smart Home () button on the Magic Remote Control.

  • Install external devices around your Smart TV.

  • If an external device is housed within a drawer, leave the drawer open.
