Connecting USB Devices

You can connect USB devices, such as HDD (Hard Disk Drives) or SSD (Solid State Drives), that you want to use for the Time Machine II to your Smart TV. You must initialize the USB device before you can use for the Time Machine II.

To connect a USB device to your Smart TV and initialize it, perform the following steps:

  1. Buy a USB device for use with the Time Machine II.

  2. Connect the USB device to the Time Machine II USB port on your Smart TV.

  3. From the current screen, press the Q.Menu () button on the Magic Remote Control to display the Screen Remote.

  4. Select on the Screen Remote to display the Progress Bar.

  5. On Progress Bar, select Option to open the window for setting up Time Machine II.

  6. Under USB Device Initialization, select Initialize.

  7. To initialize the USB device, select Yes.

  8. After initializing the storage device, you can use the USB device for the Time Machine II function.

You can also go to My APPS > Time Machine II > Option to initialize the USB device.

Notes for Using USB Devices
  • We recommend using a USB device with a capacity of between 40 GB and 2 TB.

  • SSDs have limited recording/deleting capabilities. We recommend using an HDD.

  • To remove a USB device, select Quick Menu > USB Device > Eject and wait for the message notifying you that the USB device may be safely removed before disconnecting it.

  • The format used by Time Machine II is not compatible with ordinary PCs.

  • Defective sectors in the USB device may cause Time Machine II to cease functioning properly.
