The SmartShare™ function allows you to play multimedia files from peripheral devices on your Smart TV.

To share content, connect your PC or smartphone to your Smart TV using any of the wireless or wired connection methods supported (DLNA, Wi-Fi Direct, Miracast™, WiDi, NFC, MHL, etc.) or plug a USB device directly into your Smart TV. After establishing the connection, you can enjoy the stored content on the large screen of your Smart TV.

Using SmartShare™

On the Smart TV home screen, select SmartShare™ to view a list of the content available through SmartShare™.

Before you can use SmartShare™, you must connect the peripheral device to the same network as your Smart TV.

Recent

To view a list of recently viewed or added content, select Recent.

To delete the content of the Recent list, select Delete History.

Smartshare™ Search

When using Smartshare™, select the Search button () at the top of the screen.

  • You can use Smartshare™ to search for shared videos, pictures, music and recorded files.

  • While using Smartshare™, you can search for content offered by a different service.

  • You can sort search results by the newest date.

  • Smartshare™ searches may be delayed when first connecting to an external device.

  • Before the search service initiates, the search icon will be deactivated () and will activate when the search function is ready.

Videos

To view a list of all the videos shared via SmartShare™, select Videos. Select a video from the list to play it.

Use Mark Play in Videos to select multiple videos at the same time and play them in sequence.

You can control the video being played with the Progress Bar at the bottom of the screen.

Pauses the video.
Plays the video.
Rewinds the video.
Fast forwards the video.
Plays the previous file.
Plays the next file.
Shifts to 3D mode.
OptionSets the video playback, image, and sound options.
Photos

To view a list of all the photos shared via SmartShare™, select Photos. Select a photo from the photo list to display it on the screen.

You can control the photo being displayed with the Progress Bar at the bottom of the screen.

Starts or stops the slideshow.
Starts or stops the background music.
  • You can select background music from any connected device.

Rotates the photo clockwise by 90°.
Enlarges the photo.
Shifts to 3D mode.
OptionSets the photo playback, image, and sound options.
Music

To view a list of all the music files shared via SmartShare™, select Music. Select a music file from the music list to play it.

You can control the music file being played using the Progress Bar at the bottom of the screen.

Pauses the track.
Plays the track.
Plays the previous track.
Plays the next track.
Repeats the track.
Plays the tracks in order.
Shuffles the tracks.
You can listen to music with the TV screen turned off.
Option Sets sound.
Recorded TV

To view a list of the recordings on your Smart TV, select Recorded TV. Select a recording from the list to play it.

You can use the following functions for the Recorded TV list.

  • Mark Play: Selects multiple recordings from the recording list and plays them sequentially.

  • Delete/Protection: Deletes recordings or protects recordings from being deleted.

You must disable the protection on a recording before you can delete it.

You can control the recording being played using the Progress Bar at the bottom of the screen.

Pauses the recording.
Plays the recording.
Rewinds the recording.
Fast forwards the recording.
Plays the previous recording.
Plays the next recording.
Clip-Edit Edits a section.
Repeat Repeats a section.
Shifts to 3D mode.
Option Sets the video playback, image, and sound options.
Linked Device

To view a list of the devices connected to your Smart TV via SmartShare™, select Linked Device.

This list displays the names, icons, and types of devices connected to your Smart TV, such as USB devices, smartphones, and PCs. Select a connected device to open its sub folders and files.

SmartShare™ Supported Formats

SmartShare™ supports the following file formats.

  • Maximum data transfer rate

    • Full HD

      1920 X 1080: 20 Mbps (Mega bit per second)

    • ULTRA HD [Depending on model] ULTRA HD Video

      3840 X 2160 (H.264 L5.1) : 50 Mbps

      3840 X 2160 (H.265 L5.0) : 25 Mbps

Notes on Video Playback
  • User-created subtitles may not work properly.

  • The video file and subtitle file must be within the same folder.

  • The video file must have the same name as the subtitle file to correctly display the subtitles.

  • This Smart TV does not support streams that include GMC (Global Motion Compensation) and Qpel (Quarterpel Motion Estimation).

  • Full HD Video: 1920 X 1080

    • Only H.264/AVC profile level 4.1 and lower is supported.

  • ULTRA HD Video (Supports only ULTRA HD model) : 3840 X 2160

    • It supports the playback through USB only.

    • LG’s ULTRA HD is fully compatible with most of ULTRA HD contents encode in HEVC delivering stunning high resolution contents. However it may not support certain types of codec contents.

    • New codecs can be updated through SW upgrade.

  • Some ULTRA HD models need connection with “ULTRA HD Upgrade Kit”.

  • The file size limit is dependent on the encoding environment.

  • This Smart TV supports only V2 or higher Window Media Audio formats.

  • This Smart TV does not support AAC Main Profiles.

  • This Smart TV may not be able to play videos created using certain encoding methods.

  • Video file formats not supported by Smart TV may not play properly.

  • Video files stored in a USB device that does not support high speed data transmission may not play smoothly.

  • This Smart TV only supports the DTS audio codec when playing video files from a USB device.

SmartShare™ Connecting Guide

The SmartShare™ Connecting Guide appears automatically the first time that you use SmartShare™.
You can follow the steps shown in the SmartShare™ Connecting Guide to easily connect your Smart TV to other digital devices.

In addition to the procedures described in the SmartShare™ Connecting Guide, you can also use other methods to connect your Smart TV to other digital devices. For details on other connection methods, refer to the various wired and wireless connection methods for SmartShare™.

SmartShare™ Settings

Smart Home () > SmartShare™ > Settings

You can set the following SmartShare™ functions.

  • My TV Name

    Specifies the name that appears when other devices search for your Smart TV.

  • Network Status

    Specifies the network to which your Smart TV connects.

  • Wi-Fi Direct

    Specifies the wireless network to which your Smart TV connects, such as Wi-Fi Direct or WiDi.

  • Auto Play on Receive

    Determines whether your Smart TV prompts you before playing content from other devices or automatically plays the content.

  • DivX(R) VOD

    Registers or deregisters DivX(R) VOD.

  • If you used or borrowed your DivX registration code from another device, you cannot play purchased DivX files. Always use the DivX registration code provided with this product.

  • Files that do not comply with DivX codec standards may have audio or video errors or may not play.
